Stellar Observatory

Collect starlight. Process data. Catalog the cosmos.

Run a growing observatory from a hilltop refractor to galactic-scale arrays. Tap to observe, buy equipment, ride the day/night cycle, and unlock deeper facility tiers as your sky catalog fills with real astronomy targets.

Play free in your browser — no download required. First load is ~40 MB, so give it 30–60 seconds; after that your progress saves locally.

Features

Idle / incremental loop

Starlight, data, and discoveries flow as three production chains that feed each other.

🌗

Day / night cycle

Starlight yield drops in daylight; upgrades and prestige help you push through.

🌌

Sky catalog

25 named deep-sky targets, each with a short astronomy blurb and a permanent bonus.

🔭

Facility tiers

Hilltop Site → Radio Wing → Space Network → Deep Field Array.

♻️

Two prestige layers

Dark-Sky Rating (run reset) and Galactic Mandate (meta reset) for endless scaling.

⚙️

24+ producers

Telescopes, correlators, orbital platforms, Mandala Arrays, and more.

🧪

Research upgrades

Click power, global output, daylight resistance, and producer discounts.

📋

Programs & contracts

Nightly observation goals and scaling research contracts from the Director.

☄️

Sky events

Clouds, comets, and transients keep the night sky alive.

🏆

Achievements & journal

Track milestones from First Light to Master Cartographer.

💤

Offline progress

Keep earning while away — up to 24 hours.

💾

Save tools

Local autosave, backup, export/import, and STELLAR1: cloud save codes.

How to play

  1. Observe the sky to gather starlight.
  2. Buy Telescopes, Photometers, and Grad Students in the shop.
  3. Convert starlight into Data and Discoveries.
  4. Fill the Sky Catalog — 25 real objects, from Andromeda to GW170817.
  5. Prestige to a darker site for permanent bonuses, then charter the Galactic Network for endgame scaling.

A built-in tutorial walks you through the basics. Works with mouse or touch, in a portrait-oriented UI that's comfortable on phone browsers and desktop alike.

Controls

v0.5.1Google Play & Touch Fixes

Stellar Observatory begins rolling out on Google Play (com.stellarobservatory.game) with optional rewarded ads, in-app Supporter Pack and Stellar Credit packs, and optional Play Games cloud backup. Fixes the first-run tutorial touch input on Android with larger tap targets and dimmed modal steps. Saves from 0.5.0 carry forward; itch and Play builds share the same game logic.

v0.5.0Equipment Rebalance & Observatory UI

The biggest economy and interface pass since launch. Reorganized equipment shop with tier headers and multi-currency buys, scalable research contracts, a dedicated Settings panel (with a 75–150% UI size slider), and a redesigned Journal for stats and achievements. The first Dark-Sky prestige is tuned for a ~30-minute fresh run. Saves from 0.4.x upgrade automatically.

v0.4.0Comets & Clear Skies

A polish and performance pass. Adds rare comet events you can tap for bonus resources, relaxing background music that crossfades with the day/night cycle, and a browser performance mode (reduced sky effects, throttled shop refreshes) that's on by default on the web. Also adds an optional FPS counter and fixes a save bug that could zero out current starlight on load.

v0.3.0The Director's Office

The hilltop refractor was never going to run itself. v0.3.0 adds a whole "what do we point at tonight?" layer on top of the idle loop — the Director's Office, observation programs, and staff assignment, giving you meaningful nightly decisions alongside the steady incremental climb.
